Personality can change in a positive direction as one grows
older. This is not simply a wishful opinion, but a conclusion
based on studies. It means that one's later years can be a time
for enhanced satisfaction in living.
Not only does each phase of living offer its own particular
opportunities, but certain kinds of problems are also more
likely to arise. Among the more frequent issues in older adults
are the readjustments that go along with retirement, adjusting
to a new living environment, the physical infirmities of aging,
the loss of a spouse or of friends, financial worries, family
conflict, and the prospect of death and dying. Any of these
issues can contribute to increased loneliness, anxiety, and
depression. Individuals need a safe person and place to talk
about their transition and history, whether it be painful, sad,
or humorous.
The Visiting PsychMed program for Older Adults is designed to
assist seniors with the specific issues of aging. Their issues
usually decrease and they feel an increased sense of
satisfaction when participating in our program. Most individuals
develop better relationships with family and make new friends
and feel better about themselves overall.
We conduct initial assessments on adults relocating to community
living environments to assist with transitional issues that may
arise as part of the adjustment process as well as therapeutic
services for established residents. The team assists each
individual to reach their highest potential on a daily basis.
Licensed Clinical Social Workers or Psychologists conduct
assessments, individual or couple psychotherapy and group
therapy to residents in independent living, assisted living,
nursing home and other community settings.
Psychiatrists and Nurse Practitioners provide medication
evaluation and management on site as well.
Visiting PsychMed provides the highest quality assessment,
diagnosis and treatment for adults with psychiatric and
substance abuse issues on an outpatient basis. Therapy is
provided for our patients with kindness, empathy, dignity and
respect at all levels in the continuum of care in order to
maximize the individual’s ability to achieve successful mental
and emotional health.
